I guess I should start this with what got me into training. At age 20, I had lost 30lbs to depression and anxiety my sophomore year of college. This left me at a very scrawny 90lbs. I would eat a lot, with no exercise, trying to gain weight back with no luck. That's when I hit the gym my first time. Not really knowing what I was doing, I just did what I remember doing in P.E. in high school. Sprinting one day and doing 3 sets of 10 reps on all the weight machines the next day. That's when a friend urged me to take a powerlifting class. I, being as skinny as I was, was hesitant but did it anyway. I learned how to do squat, bench press, and deadlift. Since I was so small, the powerlifting coach actually asked me to join my university's powerlifting team because the weight class I would be in was so tiny! So I joined and I loved it, and started gaining my weight back! I even got to compete at a collegiate national level for 2 years. While I did not place, it meant everything to just be there. After I was done with college and realized what the word transgender meant, I found that the source of my depression and anxiety was gender dysphoria. So I started hypertrophic (size) training to start to masculinize my body and alleviate all the dysphoria I could until I could start hormones. Once I started hormones and continued to workout, I started getting the body I never thought was possible. I actually had a moment of "wow, this is what normal people feel like?!" I want to help people get to where have that moment through working out and developing a healthy relationship with their bodies at all stages to help them feel at peace. Having a good relationship with your body and mind is a life changer. I want to help change your life for the better. We will work on getting you to where you want to be. To make you realize, "wow, I CAN do this" and apply that to all aspects of life. We will get you stronger physically and mentally TOGETHER-- meaning you and I will both have to put in effort to accomplish this. What you put in is what you get out, right? So let's get to work!
With gratitude,
Alec C. Maggio
